“My biggest achievement in life springs from my three beautiful girls”, are the words of a powerful black woman. Serita Harris is an outgoing individual who approaches each day with the courage of a lion. Unable to complete her secondary education because she gave birth to her first child at the age of sixteen, Miss Harris, pressed forward with the dream of having a better life. Thus, at the age twenty-seven she continued her studies at the Oberlin High School where she did evening classes to acquire the necessary CXC subjects. She then moved on to the Career Academy of Practical Nursing where she was certified as a Practical Nurse and graduated at the top of her class. Miss Harris worked in this area for five years so that she would be able to build a firm foundation for her children, Diakia Creary, Shennice Harris and Cavel Harris. She later decided to continue her studies and is now a fourth year student at the Excelsior Community College pursuing a Bachelors in the field of Registered Nursing. “I believe that people should always try to elevate themselves, never limit what they can do”, she says. Though she stands by this quotes Miss Harris has failed many times but does not allow these failures to hinder her success. It is with that same spirit and drive that led her to three consecutive years award with the title Spirit of the Excelsior Community College. Determine to not only being a Registered Nurse, her passion and care for others, especially the sick, has led her to the development of her business plan to open her own Nursing Home after graduating university. With this mindset, she focuses on the positive future that awaits her.
